Yep, here they are the bears from Nashville, Tennesee! Early December of 2008, Jonah and Charlie Perkins set out with paper and pen (well this part of course I have to imagine as J-Bear and C-Bear were indeed a surprise for Grandpa). This past week these awesome bears arrived here in Richmond in a big flat box wrapped in brown paper. Inside the box was not only the bears but also the original drawings on white paper in a grey manila folder.
Obviously, Jonah and Charlie’s mom, Sarah had a lot to do with the bears being transformed from just an idea on paper to a final end product. Grandpa (and Grandma) are in bear-heaven as the finest toy stores in all of the U.S. and around the world have no other J-Bear or C-Bears! They are one of kind in today’s mass market world.
I have a feeling many a grandpa and grandma would also enjoy such a unique present don’t you?
It’s a real opportunity in today’s world to teach a child to really make something. I remember as kid going into my neighbor’s garage thinking, “I’d like to build a car”. Somehow that dream never became anything, because a) there were no adults around to consult with my eager mind and b) I lacked any real raw materials to build a car. (please note I was only thinking of building a scale car, much the size of a soap box derby vehicle).
Long story, short, I hope my readers will consider for their families such opportunities to encourage children. Matt and Sarah are a unique mom and dad and such are teaching Jonah and Charlie to make something of their dreams. My parents did that for me as well, and my dreams are still alive and growing.
J-Bear and C-Bear continue the adventure traveling with Al and Nancy Perkins on their jaunts across the globe.
