What are you eating?

I was walking in the market the other day and I said to myself, “wow, I wonder how many people here have ever given any thought to what they eat?” This also comes from a conversation with a fellow employee who migrated to the US some years back and made the comment, “well when I came to the US, I just believed that if something was in the store, it couldn’t possibly be bad for me”. Another great friend from Europe came and stayed with us for a week and made the comment, “no one has ever spoken to me about the dangers of sugar”. Could it be that we focus on big ticket issues like cigarettes, fiber, gluten and miss smaller elements of eating?

This begs the question, do people give any thought to what they eat? We all know eating is one of the most emotional activities we conduct as homo sapiens do we not? Eating is right up there with falling in love and feeling strongly about our political candidate if not many other emotional items of our every day life.

I can say all of this as in 2013 my life was turned around when a local doctor labeled me obese. I just wasn’t prepared to have and face that horrid term. His solution though was to recommend I read a book, “Eat to Live” by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I took the book and went at it whole heartily only to transform to an entirely different way of life. I do understand this is far from the norm, but at the end of the day I was truly looking for a solution to my life long yo-yo way of eating and had fallen into many a dead-end trap due to my overall ignorance. By end of 2014 I was 100 pounds lighter and so much more at peace with the world around me.

I don’t expect you as a reader to rush to buy Dr. Fuhrman’s book, but how about stepping into educating yourself on healthy living? Go out there and Google the site, “Mind, Body, Green” and read up on many other tips that could virtually save your life.

Take time to think about your future and consider just how eating is either enabling your life or making you a slave to what is available readily in the store or restaurant.

Thanks for listening!
